We are excited to announce our Marriage & Family Therapist opening!
Primary Duties and Responsibilities of a Marriage & Family Therapist:
- Provide marriage therapy for residential clients (including the client’s partner).
- Provide family therapy for the residential clients (including family members who are authorized by client).
- Document all services in electronic health record in real time.
- Provide related clinical trainings throughout the agency (i.e. family systems and dynamics, domestic violence, grief, etc.)
- Work closely with the clinical team as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, providing input and feedback to treatment planning for engaged clients.
- Promote family involvement by providing education to clients regularly.
- Facilitate “family group” for visit nights, as deemed appropriate or necessary (including developing appropriate psychoeducational material).
- Provide clinical supervision and/or consultation as assigned/necessary.
Qualifications for a Marriage & Family Therapist:
Required Education and Experience:
- Master’s Degree, required: Marriage & Family Therapy (preferred), or Master’s Degree in Social Work or Counseling
- At least three (2) years’ experience in human services fieldwork (Preferred)
- Experience in substance abuse program management, delivery, and evaluation (Preferred)
Required Licensing or Certifications Required:
- NJ LMFT (not associate); or
- NJ LCSW or NJ LPC
- Must be able to document experience and comprehensive training in the areas of marriage & family therapy (i.e. Structural Therapy certification, Family Systems Therapy certification, Gottman certification, Imago Relationship Therapy certification, Emotionally Focused Therapy certification, etc.)
Specialized Skills, Abilities and Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of symptom criteria (as outlined in the DSM) necessary to identify mental health, personality and substance use disorders
- In-depth knowledge of the causes and effects of addiction on individuals, families and society
- Understanding of crisis management and the ability to deal with life threatening situations including the prevention of suicide and/or homicide under the guidance of the correctional center staff if needed
- Understanding of addictions recovery, motivational interviewing and 12-step treatment methods
- Knowledge of needs and risk assessment
- Comprehension of case management and record keeping practices
- Cultural Sensitivity
- Ability to conduct a suicidal/homicidal risk assessment
- Ability to identify symptoms associated with mental health and personality disorders
- Effective clinical communication, both written and verbal
- Ability to establish strong therapeutic alliances with clients and solid working relationships with staff
- Ability to demonstrate cultural awareness, genuine positive regard and empathy regarding client concerns
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality in performing counselor duties
Work Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 9am-5pm Tuesday and Thursday 11am-7pm
