“Runners raced the streets of downtown Newark on Wednesday, October 7th, 2009 in a 5-K Corporate Team and Individual Race. Teams represented corporations such as Prudential, PSE&G, Horizon Blue Cross/Blue Shield, McCarter & English, Veterans Association, Federal Probation, Elizabeth Police Department and Budweiser. Over one thousand runners participated in the event!”
There are many reasons why many corporations participated in this race. Some are:
Prudential: “We’re focused on building a culture of health at Prudential. We’re always looking for ways to engage employees in staying fit and healthy. This lunchtime race provides us with another chance to challenge ourselves to stay in shape. It’s convenient, basically right outside our doors, it’s for a good cause and it’s fun!”
Anheuser-Busch: “ALL citizens should have a moral obligation to support the local community in which they live and work. It happens to be the group we are supporting is Integrity House and one of the best Newark organizations that has helped so many people turn their lives around for the better and continues to be a shining beacon for the City and the community of Newark. We believe in the mission of Integrity House cause and want to support it as best as we can. The 5K run is a the perfect combination of doing something healthy, positive and at the same time exposing our employees to what is Integrity House and how it has helped the community.”
McCarter & English: They ran to honor the memory of Drew Berry, Chairman of the firm who passed away over the summer.
Federal Probation: The Federal Probation officers ran in memory of fellow propation officer Tom Castellano who died earlier this year.
